Step inside Chester County Book and Music Company. Along with the normal store activity -- customers perusing new best sellers, choosing writing paper or sampling musical recordings youll see signs of a strong commitment to Chester County literacy and education.
One day, you might spot three local authors at a display table, autographing copies of their books. Another day, in the childrens section, youll find a group of youngsters listening to a vivid reading in a literacy-oriented story time project. On an ongoing community bulletin board, youll see notices of such educational happenings as writing workshops, training seminars and health programs.
For more than a decade, Chester County Book and Music Company owners Kathy and Bob Simoneaux have actively been helping promote community literacy, the enjoyment of reading, and lifelong learning. They and their staff have contributed time and effort, money and space toward these goals.
Theyve worked with local libraries to bring such best-selling authors as mystery writer Lisa Scottoline, historian David McCullough and comic-memoirist John Grogan to chat with local readers. Childrens section staffers review kids books for a local publication called Kids News, which librarians can use themselves or share with children and parents. The company has held in-store fundraisers to benefit schools and nonprofit organizations, including designated days when a portion of store profits has gone to Chester County school libraries.
The company has also supported the Chester County Adult Literacy program in ways such as donating space to hold adult-literacy programs, consultations and other activities and contributing bookstore gift certificates as prizes for program award-winners.
Bringing a wealth of reading opportunities to our community, and championing literacy and education, the Chester County Book and Music Company is a good neighbor, partner and literacy hero.
