The West Chester Library is already rigorously preparing to host its annual Literacy Heroes Breakfast. Co-presented by Verizon, this uplifting event will honor Chester County, PA residents who have worked tirelessly to champion the cause of literacy within the past year. The event will be held on April 17th, 2009 from 7:30am to 9:30am at Longwood Gardens.

Governor Edward G. Rendell has agreed to serve as Honorary Chair of the event, and Tamala Edwards, Morning News Anchor for 6abc Action News, will serve as Master of Ceremonies. As in previous years, from November 15th through January 15th, the community will have the opportunity to nominate heroes in eight literacy categories including: Adult, Youth, Local Author, Medical/Health, Technology, Community Impact, Corporate, and Education.

Howard Sundwall, Board President of the West Chester Library said, "This event is so meaningful to us because we have the opportunity to publicly recognize people whose dedication to literacy might otherwise go unnoticed. Literacy heroes are not only teachers or educators who spend their time teaching others how to read and write-- they are community volunteers, grandparents, and individuals who spend valuable time helping others."
